Rollercoaster
Rollercoaster, ohh Rollercoaster
We use you to make a point,
to convey metaphors,
to sound deep—
All while you stand there,
taking it all in.
But no one dares to use you
as the tool you truly are.
I think of you as something
I can do to practice bravery,
to tap into my limited human flesh,
and for a moment,
remind myself of the significance
of going on this ride.
It can be fun,
but it's also educational
and spiritually powerful.
It's how I conquer all my fears—
and the screaming reminds me
that I will always do the things I fear.
You remind me of that part of myself
that could never allow itself
to stand by and be scared—
a part of me that will always
run towards danger
because that's how I tap
into the limitless part of me.
That's how I activate it,
even for just a minute.
Standing in the queue,
terrified out of my mind,
I teach myself the concept
I so often forget:
mind over matter.
Mentally, I've conquered
all the small voices
that are always telling me
I shouldn't do certain things
simply because I'm scared.
So I'd like to thank you for your service.
There aren't many of us
who would look you straight in the face
and get to know you on a deeper level.
Even you are getting us
one step closer
to being like you.
You're more than a metaphor.
You're more than a scary ride.
You taught me fear,
then taught me how to ride it.
